Optomap

The Optomap is the latest technology for eye examination. It has an ultra-wide digital retinal imaging system that enables us to see up to 4 times the amount of the retina than conventional methods which typically only allow you to see 10-15 % of your retina at one time. The fact we can now see more of the retina means that we can detect glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease far earlier.

The Optomaps process consists of special wavelengths of light which are involved in three different scans and is purposely designed to identify and detect the abnormalities in the different layers of the retina.

The Optomap process is non-intrusive and completely pain-free. The scans only take about a minute and we take you through the images immediately after and discuss any questions you may have.

We keep your Optomap scan on record so we can compare any changes in your retina over time. 

Here at Swords Eye Centre we have one of two Optomap machines of this type on the island of Ireland and we recommend getting a scan as part of a comprehensive eye examination.
